More exciting news from the Festival’s Education Department!
This past fall, four students in our Dream Big Private Lesson Program successfully auditioned for the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association and New Mexico Music Educators Association! The students are:
• Hadleigh Lamay-Mason, a 6th-grade violin student at Ortiz Middle School who won admission into the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association’s Prelude Strings Orchestra.
• Evelyn Funes, a 12th-grade viola student at Capital High School who won admission into the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association’s Youth Symphony Orchestra.
• Aseneth Ultreras, a 12th-grade violin student at Capital High School who won admission into the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association’s Mariachi Estrella.
• Luca Buckley, a 12th-grade cello student at Capital High School who won admission into the New Mexico Music Educators Association’s All-State Concert Orchestra.
We’re so proud of these talented, hard-working musicians and offer them our warmest congratulations!
Another recent highlight is that we completed a successful series of in-school chamber music concerts—featuring world-class musicians performing string quartets by Franz Joseph Haydn and Alexander Borodin—through our longtime Music in Our Schools program. Afterward, Juan Rodriguez, a student at Ramirez Thomas Elementary School, sent us some wonderful feedback (and drawings!), writing: “Thank you so much for the music. It made me think of nothing except the music. My favorite instruments were violin 1 and violin 2. You all played very beautiful music.” Thank you, Juan, and all our students for making our music education programs so successful and for bringing meaning to what we do!
On another happy note, here are photos of two dedicated Dream Big Private Lesson Program students from Capital High School participating in private flute lessons with instructor Vicki Schaevitz.
