Violist Cynthia Phelps’s versatile career includes performing across the globe as a chamber musician, soloist, and principal violist of the New York Philharmonic (1992-present). Featured in several nationwide Live from Lincoln Center telecasts, solo appearances include the Minnesota Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, the symphonies of San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Vermont, and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Bilbao. Recitals have taken her to Paris, Rome, London, Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and Washington. She is a founding member of the flute-viola-harp trio Les Amies. She received a Pro Musicis award and was also awarded First Prize at the Lionel Tertis and Washington International competitions. Her album for flute, viola, and harp on Telarc was nominated for a Grammy Award. She can also be heard on Cala and Virgin Classics.
