Become a member of the Festival’s Artists’ Circle and enjoy an exclusive recital by pianist Shelley Ng on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 5 p.m. in the historic Acequia Madre House in Santa Fe.
Ms. Ng’s exciting and wide-ranging program includes Haydn’s Sonata in D Major, Hob. XVI:37; Liszt’s transcription of Wagner’s Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde; Messiaen’s Le Baiser de l’enfant-Jésus from Vingt regards sur l’enfant-Jésus; Maestoso from Prisms by Festival Artistic Director Marc Neikrug; and three works by Chopin: the Étude in G-flat Major, Op. 10, No. 5, Étude in F Major, Op. 10, No. 8, and Nocturne in D-flat Major, Op. 27, No. 2.
An active and versatile musician, Ms. Ng—who’s based in Hong Kong, where she’s a pianist for the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble—has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician across three continents. Recent highlights include working with celebrated conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Thomas Adès, and Gemma New, serving as a piano fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center, and performing in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City; Harris Concert Hall in Aspen; Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood; St James’s Church, Piccadilly, in London; and Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Hong Kong City Hall, and the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Hong Kong. In addition, Ms. Ng is a laureate of several competitions, including the Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music Competition Salzburg and the Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition for violin, cello, and chamber music.
Ms. Ng earned a first-class-honors bachelor’s degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and master’s degrees from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, with distinction, and Rice University in Houston, Texas, where she served on the piano and chamber music faculty of The Shepherd School of Music’s preparatory division. She was also a candidate for a doctor-of-musical-arts degree at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
